Join us on a visual journey through the history, innovation, creativity and cultural impact of one of the great legends of video games.

From its beginnings in Kyoto in 1889, when Fusajiro Yamauchi started making hanafuda cards, to becoming a global leader in interactive entertainment, Nintendo has continually reinvented itself.

Throughout the twentieth century it explored different paths, from innovative toys such as Gunpei Yokoi’s Ultra Hand to systems that defined a generation, including Color TV-Game and Game & Watch.

With Donkey Kong (1981), created by Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo achieved its first major international success and established itself in the industry. Consoles such as the Famicom (NES) and Game Boy later made it one of the world’s leading manufacturers, paving the way for influential systems including the Super Nintendo, Nintendo DS, Wii and Nintendo Switch.

This exhibition follows that unique journey from its beginnings to the present, exploring how Nintendo has made video games a continuing expression of play, creativity and innovation.
