On 7 May 2026, MUVIC visited Escola Pública Benviure in Sant Boi de Llobregat to share an exhibition and talk on Nintendo’s history and the evolution of video games with pupils in their sixth year of primary school.

The session introduced the children to different systems, formats and key periods in video game history, explaining how the medium has evolved from its beginnings into an essential part of contemporary popular culture.

It was a very special experience to contribute to their educational project on video games, culture and society, and to see the pupils’ interest, questions and curiosity throughout the activity.

At MUVIC, we continue bringing video game history to primary and secondary schools and cultural organisations across Catalonia, through educational activities combining heritage, technology, memory and learning.

TOT GRÀCIA Magazine has published a feature on MUVIC – Museu del Videojoc de Catalunya, entitled “Creació Recreativa”. The article introduces the project and its exhibition area as a new cultural offering in Gràcia, near Plaça de Lesseps, inside SuperBoniato Store.

Written by journalist Carles Batalla, the feature emphasises that MUVIC goes far beyond nostalgia. It presents the project as an initiative to preserve video games, share knowledge and explain their cultural context, focusing on original systems, unique objects and materials that help us understand the medium’s evolution.

The article also discusses the exhibition running at the time, The history of Nintendo, and the value of displaying consoles, handhelds, accessories and unusual objects as witnesses to a shared history. It highlights the power of video games to connect generations, from childhood memories to younger visitors’ interest in discovering earlier systems and experiences.

It also conveys one of MUVIC’s central ideas: video games are cultural heritage and deserve to be preserved, explained and recognised. As the feature shows, our work goes beyond preserving machines and games to telling the stories behind them: creators, artists, musicians, companies, technologies and communities.

We are delighted that a local publication such as TOT GRÀCIA has taken an interest in MUVIC. Being part of the neighbourhood’s cultural life is essential to the project: we want to offer a welcoming space for families, schools, collectors, curious visitors and people of all ages.

MUVIC will take part in the next SAGA Barcelona Game Fest alongside RetroBarcelona, a new event aiming to make Barcelona a major meeting point for video games in southern Europe. It will take place on 9, 10 and 11 October 2026 at Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc.

For MUVIC, taking part is an opportunity to continue presenting video games as cultural, technological and social heritage, and to share the history of original systems with new audiences: families, enthusiasts, professionals, students and creators. We will announce further details of our participation, the objects on display and the educational activities in due course.

On Saturday 27 June 2026, MUVIC – Museu del Videojoc de Catalunya took part in the first European Arcade Heritage Day, an initiative bringing together museums, collections and video game preservation spaces across Europe with a shared aim: to preserve, study and share our video game heritage.

For MUVIC, joining this first edition is an important step towards building a European collaborative network dedicated to keeping video game history alive. The project connects institutions, collectors and communities working to ensure that machines, games, documents and memories remain accessible to future generations.

Video games are also culture, history and memory. Preserving them means safeguarding an essential part of our technological and social past, as well as a way to understand the present and imagine the medium’s future.

MUVIC congratulates all the museums, collectors and enthusiasts who made this first European Arcade Heritage Day possible and who share this mission of preservation.

On 16 and 17 May 2026, MUVIC organised the Museum Area at RetroBarcelona in La Farga de l’Hospitalet, with one of our largest and most ambitious exhibitions to date. It brought together unique consoles, historic objects, themed display cases, explanatory panels and special tributes.

The aim was to trace the evolution of video games through original systems, placing each generation in the context of its technology, design, industry and popular culture. The museum area also offered special guided tours and welcomed educators, creators, collaborators and friends of the project.

MUVIC was pleased to welcome ARAPDIS, a social organisation in Gràcia working on rehabilitation, social inclusion and access to employment for people experiencing mental health difficulties. ARAPDIS provides services and programmes aimed at improving quality of life, social connections, independence and community participation.

During the visit we shared video game history, but above all experiences. The display cases, consoles and objects became starting points for memories, questions, conversations and discoveries.

At MUVIC, we believe culture, and video games in particular, can be a powerful way to stimulate the mind, build social connections and challenge stigma.

La Vanguardia has published a feature on the founding of the Museu del Videojoc de Catalunya, highlighting the project, its educational purpose and its exhibition on Nintendo’s history. Coverage in a general-interest newspaper helps explain MUVIC beyond the retro gaming community: a cultural project that preserves original systems, documents period materials and explores video games from historical, technological and social perspectives.

This visibility reinforces a central idea at MUVIC: video games are part of contemporary cultural heritage and deserve to be preserved, studied and explained with rigour.

MUVIC welcomed El Gat de Vader, an association that actively supports video game culture and the retro gaming community through activities, tournaments and cultural initiatives. The meeting became an exchange of ideas, experiences and perspectives on the role of video games in contemporary culture.

As a result of this connection, MUVIC has become a sponsor of the European Pixel League, an El Gat de Vader initiative that connects retro gaming associations and communities through competitions and events centred on classic games. This collaboration has opened the door to new European preservation and educational projects.

MUVIC does not have a museum of its own. SuperBoniato Store hosts an ongoing exhibition area for the project inside its shop at Carrer Pérez Galdós, 45, Barcelona. This partner space allows us to display a changing, themed selection from the collection on an ongoing basis.

It is a small area within the shop, rather than an independent museum or a display of the complete collection. Exhibitions change approximately every two or three months and include contextual material. Admission is free during SuperBoniato Store’s opening hours.
